Chakra Guide

The seven chakras are signify the following parts of the body:

  • The first one (root) is located at the base of the spine
  • The second one (sacral) is located right below the naval
  • The third one (solar plexus) is located just above the naval, below the rib cage
  • The fourth one (heart) is located in the center of the chest
  • The fifth one (throat) is located at the base of throat or on throat itself
  • The sixth one (third eye) is located between eyebrows “third eye”
  • The seventh one (crown) is located at the top of head


Some traditions may have a slight difference of where the chakras may be located, so keep this in mind. Just because the 7 chakras are associated with certain parts of the body, this does not signify that they are “physical” entities. They do belong to the realm many call “subtle energy”.

 

The 7 Chakra System Explained

The 7 chakras are made up of seven energy centers that run along the spine, from the base of spine to the top of the head.
The chakra system has been based on from a Hindu chakra system that is attuned to the seven distinct “wheels” or “centers” of energy that run in co-ordinance along the human body’s spinal column. Each chakra have their own color and vibrational frequency, these wheels are the catalysts of consciousness and human function. They govern various emotional issues, from our survival instincts and self-esteem to our ability to communicate and experience love.

 

ROOT CHAKRA

Location: The root chakra is associated with the base of the spine, the pelvic floor, and the first three vertebrae.
Energy Significance: Your root chakra (aka Muladhara in Sanskrit) represents the foundation your body, like a house. When the foundation is in balance it’s sturdy, stabilizing, and supportive. This becomes responsible for your sense of security and survival. The energy towards this chakra is significant with grounding energy. Also with the emotions such as letting go of fear and feeling safe.
Blocked Energy: When this chakra is blocked, you may be diagnosed with anxiety disorders, dealing with fears and/or nightmares. Physical issues may include issues with the colon, bladder, with releasing toxins, lower back pain, leg pain and/or feet issues. 
Spiritual Guidance: To keep this chakra healthy, exercises such as dancing, jogging or jumping are beneficial. We should see if our security needs are being met, and take our power to create our own security in our lives so that our world is a safe and enjoyable place for us. It’s message is, “I exist”. Live your life proudly.

SACRAL CHAKRA

Location: Just below the navel
Energy Significance: Your sacral chakra (aka Svadhisthana in Sanskrit), the most playful out all chakras. It is responsible for our sexual and creative energies. When your sacral chakra is in alignment, you will feel friendly, passionate, and successfully fulfilled. Emotionally, you will be high in feelings of wellness, abundance, pleasure, and joy.
Blocked Energy: You will know when this chakra is blocked because you will feel uninspired creatively or have some emotional instability. Physically, you will a sense of sexual dysfunction. Emotionally, you may be experiencing fear of change, depression, or addiction-like behaviors.
Spiritual Guidance: To keep this chakra healthy, exercises as bellydancing, loving partnerships, and yoga can enhance the function of this chakra. This chakra says, “I desire”. Live your passion, whatever that may be. What are your dreams? How do you desire to live?

SOLAR PLEXUS CHAKRA

Location: Just above the naval, below the rib cage.
Energy Significance: Your solar plexus (aka Manipurain Sanskrit) means “lustrous gem." This is your source of individual power, ruling over self-esteem. This chakra focuses on your individual willpower, personal power, and commitment.”
Blocked Energy: You will know when this chakra is blocked because you may be suffering from low self-esteem, difficulty making decisions, and may have anger or control issues. Emotionally, this chakra will have you feeling badly about yourself. You may also be expressing apathy and procrastination. You may be acknowledging that you’re being taken advantage of easily. Physically, you may be noticing that you will have a stomachache of some kind such as digestive issues or gas.
Spiritual Guidance: A healthy flow allows you to control your destiny, feel your power and accomplish your dreams. The message of the third chakra is “I control”. Go forth and control your own destiny and happiness.

HEART CHAKRA

Location: In the center of the chest
Energy Significance: Your heart chakra (aka Anahata, in Sanskrit) is positioned where the physical and the spiritual connect. And what is the heart all about? Love. This chakra is all about awakening spiritual awareness, forgiveness, compassion.
Blocked Energy: When your heart chakra is blocked, grief, anger, jealousy, fear of betrayal, and hatred toward yourself and others may surface. This always forms in the aspect of holding a grudge against someone. This action will hold negative feelings in your energy field, making it difficult to love.
Spiritual Guidance: Healthy relationships, pets, family, even appreciation of beauty and nature enhance the health of this chakra. Anahata says, “I love”. Let your heart energy flow freely in and out. Be open to receiving the love that is available to you now, the free-flowing love that is your birthright.

THROAT CHAKRA

Location: At the base of throat or on throat itself
Energy Significance: Your throat chakra (aka Vishuddha, in Sanskrit) will have you speaking your truth, ALWAYS. This chakra rules all communication. The throat chakra allows you to fully listen and also communicate with great clarity.
Blocked Energy: When you are blocked in this chakra, you will will notice that you will have difficulties with be truth to yourself through your communication, staying focused and being distracted. Physically, you may get a sore throat, thyroid issues, neck and shoulder stiffness, or tension headaches.
Spiritual Guidance: For a healthy flow, exercises like singing, chanting and breathing exercises can enhance the health of this chakra. The message of the throat chakra is “I express”. Do not suppress your own beautiful voice. Speak your truth, sing your joy, emanate your love through the vibration of your words.

Location: Between the eyebrows
Energy Significance: The third eye chakra (aka Ajna, in Sanskrit) is all about your intuition. This energy is all about tapping into and acknowledging your inner guidance. It's about balancing the human/spiritual world. The third eye will guide you to cut through illusions and toxic drama, to see the clear picture.
Blocked Energy: When this chakra is blocked, you will notice you are struggling to tap into your intuition with clarity and trusting your inner guidance. You tend to act more judgmental, dismissive, and introverted. This chakra being blocked may lead to depression, anxiety, and a more judgmental attitude. Physically, it’s said to cause headaches, dizziness, and a slew of other brain-health issues.
Spiritual Guidance: The message of this chakra is “I am the witness”. Meditation and visualization exercises can assist the healthy flow of this chakra. Be open to your inner guidance. Listen to your thoughts, they will assist you on the right path.

Blocked Energy: When this chakra is blocked, you may start to feel isolated or emotional distressed. Feeling like you are disconnected from everyone and everything. Practice daily, meditation, prayer, moments of silence and gratitude to gain more of a spiritual connection.
Spiritual Guidance: Cosmic consciousness and peace are the frequency at this chakra. This chakras' message is “I am that I am”.
